ArmInfo. The preliminary investigation of the case of Mher Yeghiazaryan did everything possible to prevent him from being released from prison on bail. The  lawyer of Yeghiazaryan Vahe Armenakyan stated this in an interview  with ArmInfo correspondent.

He noted that for all the time of his work as a defense counsel, the  court makes such a decision for the first time. "For all the years of  my work as a lawyer for the first time, the court makes a decision,  not taking into account the state of health of the defendant, and  also not taking into account the fact that the alleged crime was not  particularly serious and was not socially dangerous. As a rule, in  such cases, the accused, they are not required to leave the place of  residence as a measure of restraint. Even the surety of the MPs did  not affect the court, " Armenakyan said.

He also noted that the amount offered as a pledge (5 million drams -  Ed.) Was almost identical to the amount in which Yeghiazaryan was  accused of appropriating (the amount did not exceed 9 million drams).   "In protest, my client went on a hunger strike. Yeghiazaryan stated  that the accusation of fraud and mediation in giving a bribe was  illegal. He did not deny that he took the money, he believed that it  should be investigated in civil law," the lawyer stressed.

He also noted that a group of lawyers of Yeghiazaryan is preparing a  complaint. "All the guilty should be punished. If our judicial system  is not able to properly satisfy our petition, we will appeal to the  ECHR," Armenakyan said.

To note, in connection with this case, Chair of the OSCE  Parliamentary Assembly's Committee on Democracy and Human Rights  Margareta Kiener addressed the Armenian Ombudsman. Moreover, press  secretary of the EU Foreign Service Maja Kocijancic stated that the  European Union expects the Armenian government to properly  investigate the death of Mher Yeghiazaryan. To note, on January 26 it  became known that Mher Yeghiazaryan, who was on a hunger strike for  44 days, died in the Nubarashen penal institution.Around 6:15 pm, the  deterioration of 51-year- old Yeghiazaryan was recorded. The  ambulance team called up stated the man's biological death. In fact  what is happening is being investigated, appointed expertise. In  connection with this, the Investigation Committee of Armenia made an  explanation, noting that the cause of death of Yeghiazaryan, who was  under investigation, was myocardial infarction. Recall that in the  criminal case, initiated in December 2018 in the investigation  department of the National Security Service of Armenia, Yeghiazaryan  was charged under paragraph 2 of part 2 of article 178 (Fraud),  paragraph 1 of part 3 of article 178, paragraph 1 of part 3 of  article 38-34- 312 (Bribe) and part 2 of Article 38-34-312 of the  Criminal Code of Armenia. According to the National Security Service,  from February 2014 to October 2018, Mher Yeghiazaryan, personally or  through other persons, abusing the trust of a number of citizens,  including military personnel, under the pretext of employment or  promotion, lured amounts in the amount of 180 thousand drams to 10  thousand dollars - only 4 million 775 thousand drams. Arrest was  chosen as a preventive measure against him.
