ArmInfo. The Karabakh conflict will not be resolved either in 2019, or in 2020, or in 2021. It is not at the stage on which it is possible to reach a final decision. Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said this on January 11 in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
He noted that these conflicts are never resolved quickly, and the Karabakh conflict is still quite young. "What is happening now is an attempt to revive real work within the framework of the negotiation process. All parties pursue different interests. For example, the Azerbaijani side is trying to achieve some kinds of concessions for itself. Basically, the matter concerns the issue of presenting Azerbaijan as a constructive country. Indeed, until today, the situation was such that it was the Armenian side that was constructive, and Azerbaijan, with its position, torpedoed the negotiation process. Now Azerbaijan is trying to change this configuration and show that it is ready to take certain steps, but Armenia does not agree," the expert stressed.
The political analyst also noted that Armenia in this situation is trying to normalize the negotiation process, as it is one of the security formats. "Yes, the negotiation process is not the most brilliant one and this security format does not always work. Thus, Armenia wants to reanimate it. The interests of the two countries coincide in a certain sense, and this is due to the intensification of the negotiation process, but the parties have completely different goals, " Iskandaryan concluded.
To note, on January 8, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Anna Naghdalyan confirmed that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs offered to hold the next meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Azerbaijan - Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov in January. To recall, the last meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan was held on December 5 in Milan with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
