ArmInfo.Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan will visit to Strasbourg on November 20-21.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, in Strasbourg Mnatsakanyan will take part in the meeting of the Council of Europe Ministerial Committee. He will also hold a series of meetings with high-ranking CE officials.
To note, from November 21, the presidency of the Council of Europe will pass to Finland, which intends to take steps to strengthen human rights and the rule of law in the COE countries. "The priorities of the Finnish presidency of the Council of Europe are: strengthening the human rights system and the rule of law in Europe; supporting women's equality and rights; focusing on young people and preventing its radicalization", the government said. Finland would also like to deepen the understanding of how new technologies affect human rights. An international conference on artificial intelligence and human rights will be organized on February 26-27, 2019 in Helsinki.
The report states that Finland will preside at a time when the Council of Europe is facing serious political and economic problems. Current political issues will include Russia's voting rights in the organization and non-payment of Russian contributions to the Council of Europe.
The Finnish presidency of the Council of Europe will last until the end of May 2019.
