ArmInfo. The head of the European People's Party, which includes several Armenian political forces, Joseph Dol on his Facebook page made a statement on the latest processes in Armenia.
"Despite the fact that the Political Assembly currently focuses on European elections, nevertheless, we must also closely monitor the processes in the Eastern Partnership space. In this regard, the other day I held a meeting with the deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, head of the parliamentary commission on foreign affairs Armen Ashotyan, who spoke about the situation in the country under the new government. I will continue to monitor the situation in Armenia and I very much hope that the new Prime Minister will respect the rule of law and the independence of the legislature. Civil manifestations are always legitimate, but they should not replace or impede parliamentary democratic processes, "the EPP secretary said in a statement.
It should be noted that the new Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced his intention to dissolve the parliament by initiating constitutional amendments envisaging the self-dissolution of the National Assembly. These intentions of the prime minister did not suit the former ruling Republican Party, which currently has the largest faction in the parliament. The RPA opposes the dissolution of the parliament, obviously realizing that in the case of new elections, it may not get into the legislature or get only a few mandates.
