Samvel Farmanyan: It is at least naive to assume that Armenia, the United States, France and Monte Negro have equal opportunities in international politics

ArmInfo. Relations between  Armenia and Russia are of primary importance for our republic, Samvel  Farmanyan, an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia faction, told  journalists on September 6, referring to the opinions of experts that  the relations between Armenia and Russia have been strained recently.

The MP noted that no matter what political force is in power, there  are problems, the solution of which is crucial for the government.  According to Farmanyan, among these priorities is the maintenance and  deepening of partnership relations with Russia. "Some of my  colleagues and I have already expressed our concern over the latest  developments in the relations between Armenia and Russia, as an MP, I  hope that all actions of the new authorities will proceed solely from  the interests of the Republic of Armenia, which presupposes the  continuation of the former foreign policy", the MP noted.

In response to a question whether the Pashinyan-Putin meeting could  smooth out the "wrinkles that appeared in the relations between the  two countries," Farmanyan said: "Relations between the countries are  not conditioned by personal meetings between the heads of state, it  is impossible to solve existing problems at these meetings. In  bilateral relations it is important that the statements that were  sounded are implemented, "Farmanyan stressed.

Commenting  on remark of some journalists that the current  authorities of Armenia, in contrast to their predecessors, are  building relations with Russia on an equal basis, the MP noted: "If  it seems to you that all countries have equal opportunities in world  politics, you must be disappointed, that's not so. It is another  matter that each state independently develops its foreign policy  based on its interests and using all its resources. " Farmanyan  stressed that at least it is necessary to maintain relations with  Russia at the level that were established before the change of power  in Armenia, since serious and dangerous factors emerged in the  region.

"We all know what is happening in Iran, moreover, recently there is  also a tense relationship between Turkey and the United States.  Deteriorating relations between Turkey and the US can lead to  strengthening of relations between Russia and Turkey. Armenia has no  right to slip in foreign policy, "the MP stressed.
