ArmInfo. The actions of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on the withdrawal of CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov fully comply with the norms of the agreement on the legal status of the Organization, spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan said at a briefing today.
"Intensive discussions are held with our partners. Armenia's membership in the CSTO only helped to strengthen the organization. Under the country's chairmanship, the most important documents were adopted in the organization, "Balayan said, adding that Armenia does not intend to carry out actions that could harm the CSTO.
To note, Armenia appealed to the member states to begin the process of replacing the CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, who is being accused as a defendant in the March 1, 2008 case. The Russian Foreign Ministry's response to this was harsh: "During a telephone conversation with RA Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that it was the RA that should withdraw the secretary-general if Yerevan adopted such a decision."
