Armenian court decides to arrest CSTO Secretary General, however alternative measure of restraint will be applied

ArmInfo.The first instance court of the Shengavit district of Yerevan granted the petition of the investigative body on the arrest of the CSTO Secretary General Yury Khachaturov. Nevertheless, as his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan told journalists, an alternative preventive measure will be applied against Khachaturov in the form of pledge.

At the same time he refrained from describing the amount of the pledge, noting that the amount is not large - up to 5 million drams.

Earlier, the Armenian SIS pressed charge against the CSTO Secretary General, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov for overthrowing the constitutional order in 2008 and applied to the court to choose arrest as a preventive measure. The investigators do not specify the role of Khachaturov in the events of 2008, but it is known that on March 1, 2008 Khachaturov commanded the Yerevan garrison of the Armenian Armed Forces. Since 2017, he has been the Secretary General of the CSTO. As his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan stated in a conversation with journalists, the SIS did not explain to Yuri Khachaturov the nature and grounds of the charges brought against him.
