During the meeting of the working group of the National Assembly on  changing the EC David Harutyunyan suggested using the ID cards

ArmInfo.. The chairperson of the first meeting of the working group of the National Assembly on amending the Electoral Code David Harutyunyan, presenting the RPA's proposals on the document, noted that they provided registration of voters with  technical devices only through ID cards.

"We propose to use only ID cards in elections because they have the  opportunity to read the chip.Let's use this opportunity and we will  provide ID cards to people in large numbers, this will increase the  level of security," he said.

Harutyunyan did not agree with the fact that it is impossible to  provide these cards in a short time, according to him, this can be  organized.

A member of the Elk faction, Edmon Marukyan, asked how much time and  money is needed for issuing ID cards to citizens of the country.

To which the ex-Minister of Justice replied that at the time when he  worked in the government, a company competition was held, however,  now he does not know at what stage this process is. In addition, he  noted that the EU expressed its readiness to render financial  assistance in this direction.

"During any elections, we will have donors who will provide financial  assistance in the process of issuing ID cards," Harutyunyan said,  adding that it is necessary to use the moment and issue ID cards to  everyone, even free of charge.

Asked why this was not done in the previous elections, Harutyunyan  said: "We came to this idea late: there was one company that we were  not happy with, we wanted ID cards of a new pattern, it's a historic  chance," concluded Harutyunyan.
