ArmInfo.Relations with Iran are of vital importance for Armenia. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan stated in an interview with the "Banadzev" program, referring to Armenia's position on the issue of extending US sanctions against Iran in connection with Tehran's nuclear program.
Mnatsakanyan recalled that official Yerevan expressed its position at a time when in 2015 a corresponding UN resolution was adopted. "We welcomed the joint, comprehensive program of actions, for us, relations with Iran are of vital importance. We have established and formed relations with Iran. We are vigilant in relation to these issues. We also mean the role of the UN Security Council resolution and have cooperation with the US", the Armenian minister said.
According to him, Armenia compares all this, as well as reveals and explains, makes obvious the vital benefits existing for the Armenian side in all issues related to relations with Iran.
Recall that on May 8, US President Donald Trump said that the United States will withdraw from the agreement on the nuclear program of Tehran, and that the US administration begins the process of restoring the action of the relevant sanctions against Iran. The president promised to sanction "the highest level" against Iran, and also stated his readiness to impose sanctions against any country that can help Tehran in obtaining nuclear weapons. Moreover, Trump said that the United States has evidence that Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons, thereby violating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
A number of European allies of the USA propose to maintain the agreement on the atom, but in parallel work on another treaty concerning other disputable issues between the West and Tehran.
The plan was approved in July 2015 by the "six" international mediators (five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) and Iran. The agreement introduces serious restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program. In exchange for meeting these conditions, Iran has achieved the lifting of a string of tough international sanctions.
