ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan will continue to squeeze the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh as a party to the talks on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Russian political scientist Maxim Mayorov expressed opinion. "Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will continue to make statements on the need to involve Nagorno- Karabakh as a party to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, as this can influence his political prospects and positions both within Armenia and, on the whole, on the world stage", said the expert, adding that Pashinyan will stay for a long time at the helm of the power of the Armenian state.
At the same time, Majorov believes that there is no reason to expect any progress in the near future in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. The leadership has changed in both states, and it will have to decide on a further course, and in the long term, yes, since both sides are interested in an early resolution of the conflict, "he said in an interview with haqqin.az.
The political scientist also considers it unlikely that the April events of 2016 will repeat in the zone of the Karabakh conflict. According to him, while there are no prerequisites for this. "I think that Moscow will do its utmost to bring the positions of the parties as close as possible and to move the conflict settlement process to a standstill without allowing violence that could undermine the already fragile peace in Transcaucasia. I am confident that this year there will be a trilateral meeting of Russian leaders, Azerbaijan and Armenia, since in addition to Karabakh there are a number of issues that need to be addressed," he said.
At the same time, Mayorov considers the statement of US President Donald Trump that the forthcoming months will open new opportunities for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict is not serious. "I would be cautious about Trump's statement, given the example of North Korea, and it was dictated by the fact that the US sees Azerbaijan as one of its main partners in Transcaucasia and therefore in every way they show support," he stressed.
