ArmInfo. Estonian citizen, adviser to the chairman of the Tallinn City Council Karina Hovhannisyan, who arrived in Baku to the international conference of teachers as member of the Estonian delegation, was expelled from Azerbaijan because of her Armenian origins.
"They say a beautiful city, but I see the airport and the boor guards. Do you know why? Because I'm deported from the country!
Thanks for supporting to my unreal colleague Catherine, the steepest employee of the Estonian Embassy - Indrek, mega Niayazi, who was trying to save the situation and the best chef in the world. Details of the meeting, who is interested in hearing about the adventures of an official with off-visa, and with a visa issued by their Foreign Ministry, but with the wrong name, note not with citizenship. Dialogue, tolerance, mutual respect, what am I talking about?," Hovhannisyan wrote on her Instagram page. Hovhannesyan noted that she was sent to eat after 7 hours at the Baku airport, and only because she herself asked.
Meanwhile, the Armenian Ambassador to Estonia Tigran Mkrtchyan on his Facebook page provided details of the incident and assessed the actions of Baku. Mkrtchyan wrote that on March 23, an Estonian citizen, adviser to the chairman of the Tallinn city council Karina Hovhannisyan as a member of the Estonian delegation arrived in Baku to attend an international conference of teachers. "Hovhannisyan officially received an electronic visa and went to Baku as a member of the delegation, however, upon arrival at the airport, the Azeri authorities "noticed an omission"- her Armenian origin and did not allow entry into the country. After 12 hours of detention in a special zone, she was sent back to Estonia: This behavior once again showed the intolerant, racist nature of the Azeri authorities, Armenophobic Baku is again cynical to European values unfamiliar to it," the Armenian Ambassador wrote.
At the same time, the Armenian diplomat expressed hope that the Estonian side will draw conclusions and respond adequately to this incident, defending the interests of its citizens. In his opinion, European institutions should not remain indifferent to the incident, since Estonia is a member of the EU. This is not the first time when citizens of another state of Armenian origin are refused to enter Azerbaijan.
