ArmInfo.First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin did not rule out the possibility of resuming negotiations on normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
At that, at a press conference in Yerevan, Zatulin expressed regret over the failure of the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process. "Erdogan chose Erdogan's way, either he wants to build a radically Muslim state, or he wants to be an obedient member of the West European community." Erdogan chose a more nationalistic way, and this is connected with the "sad" fate of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, "- stressed Zatulin. At that, the lawmaker noted that "everything in this world is changing," recalling the recent tension in Russian-Turkish relations. "But now the situation has normalized, so that the process of regulation of the Armenian-Turkish relations can also undergo changes," Zatulin concluded.
The Armenian-Turkish protocols were signed in Zurich on October 10, 2009. However, the protocols were never ratified by the parliaments of Armenia and Turkey, as Ankara constantly put forward preconditions along the way. In this connection, the process of ratification of the protocols in the Armenian parliament was frozen by order of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. And already on March 1 of this year the documents were completely annulled.
