ArmInfo.The parliamentary delegation of Armenia, headed by the Chairman of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan, takes part in the 138th meeting of the Association of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that opened in Geneva.
According to NA press service, within the framework of the meeting, which will last until March 28, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Railways Martin Chunchoglu. During the meeting, initiated by Martin Chunchoglu, issues related to improving the efficiency of the structure, proposed reforms of the charter of the Ministry of Railways were discussed. Ara Babloyan invited the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to discuss the possibility of holding IPU events in Armenia.
Deputies of the Armenian parliament take part in the work of various commissions, in particular, in the forum of women parliamentarians, a group of deputies on health issues, the commission on human rights, the commission for peace and international security.
The NA delegation includes deputies Samvel Nikoyan, Shushan Sardaryan, Lena Nazaryan, Shake Avoyan, Karen Avakyan, as well as the head of the NA apparatus, Secretary General Ara Saghatelyan. It should be noted that more than 740 parliamentarians from 137 countries take part in the work of the Ministry of Railways. In a press release issued on March 23, the IPU pays special attention to the forthcoming discussion on the rights of migrants and refugees. It is underlined that about 258 million people - almost 3.4% of the world's population - now live outside their native countries. The member states of the United Nations in 2016 stated that the social and economic rights of these people are not sufficiently provided. The parliamentarians intend to fully consider this issue - an interactive dialogue will be held with the participation of the Director General of the International Organization for Migration and High Commissioner for Refugees and Human Rights. The Director General of the World Health Organization, Teodros Adan Gebreyesus, will deliver the meeting dedicated to the implementation of the goals of sustainable development.
