ArmInfo. The Armenian Parliament has started consideration of candidatures for the Presidency.
After the head of the Republican Party faction Vahram Baghdasaryan presented the candidate for presidency from the Republican Party of Armenia (RA) - RA Ambassador to Great Britain Armen Sargsyan, the head of the Yelk bloc faction Nikol Pashinyan addressed him with a number of questions. He, in particular, was worried about the question whether Armen Sargsyan was Armenian citizen for the last 6 years and whether he permanently resided on the territory of the republic for the specified period, as required by the Constitution. "I ask this because no documents were presented to us in this regard, in response to our request, the NA Secretariat presented only the biography of Sargsyan, and moreover, the media reported that Sargsyan was a British citizen until 2014. I think that these doubts should be thoroughly dispersed, "Pashinyan said.
He also appealed to the constitutionality of the election of the fourth president by the National Assembly, since the relevant article of the basic law has not yet entered into force. In response, Vahram Baghdasaryan assured that Armen Sargsyan submitted all the necessary documents to the National Assembly, and they will be provided to the deputies. As for the constitutionality of the elections, the head of the RPA faction advised to address this issue to experts on constitutional law. "And if you doubt something, go to the Constitutional Court," advised Baghdasaryan.
