ArmInfo. Armenia is doing everything to maintain military balance in the region. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated this on January 29, summing up the results of 2017, expressing his attitude towards the sale of arms to Azerbaijan by Russia.
"As for the provision of arms to Azerbaijan by the Russian side, both the Armenian president and the foreign minister have repeatedly touched upon this issue, I do not think there is a need to repeat, but I would like to note that it is known for what reasons and with what emphasis this issue is constantly Azerbaijan does its best to maintain a military balance in the region, including using the opportunities that come from our allied relations with Russia. and military equipment at more affordable prices," Nalbandian said. He recalled that in 2010 an amended agreement was signed on the deployment of the 102nd Russian military base on the territory of Armenia, according to which, Russia undertakes to assume its obligations to ensure the security of Armenia and provide modern weapons for joint security of the Republic of Armenia.
"And, of course, it is obvious that Russia plays an important role from the point of view of ensuring security and stability in our region, not only as a co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk Group, but also as an important regional actor," the RA FM concluded. Last week, it became known about the delivery of a new batch of weapons of Russia to Azerbaijan. As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, the delivery of modern Russian-made military equipment to Azerbaijan continues in accordance with the plan. "A large batch of modern military equipment and ammunition delivered by vessels from Russia to the Baku port will be transferred to the disposal of military units stationed on the front line in a short time," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
