ArmInfo. "Armenian Ambassador to Great Britain Armen Sargsyan is one of those few figures who worked with all three presidents of Armenia, his entire biography says that he is worthy of the post of president," said Vice Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov at a press conference on January 25, answering the question why the RPA nominated Armen Sargsyan for the post of the president.
The Vice-Speaker noted that according to the new Constitution, only a non-partial politician can become president. "Therefore, we did not nominate a candidate from the RPA, but Armen Sargsyan is perfectly aware of the situation in Armenia, because being an ambassador to him it was important to know about all the challenges and problems in the RA. In addition, our presidential candidate held high positions and in Armenia, was prime minister and left this post because of health problems," Sharmazanov said. Commenting at the request of ArmInfo correspondent that the information leaked in the media that the decision on the future premiership of Serzh Sargsyan was already taken in the RPA, Sharmazanov said:
"The Republican Party has not yet discussed this issue, when we make a final decision on this matter, we will inform the public about it. I think it will be in early April 2018," the vice-speaker summed up. According to ArmInfo sources, a political decision has been taken to nominate Serzh Sargsyan for the post of prime minister and it will be made public after April 10, when his powers expire at the presidential post, and on April 17 the elections of the head of the Cabinet will be held in the National Assembly.
