ArmInfo. During the Sochi meeting, Vladimir Putin will try, with the help of Erdogan's Turkish counterpart, to reach an agreement with the ultimate goal of exerting pressure on Baku with a view to mitigating its tough stance on Karabakh. Such an opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by the head of Caucasus department of the Institute of CIS countries, military expert Vladimir Evseev.
On the eve of the meeting with Russian colleague Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced discussion of other issues and the Karabakh problem at the meeting. Erdogan expressed the supposition that if the Russian colleague is concentrated on this issue, it "will be easily solved".
"It is obvious that Moscow's desire to continue the dialogue with Ankara is obvious, but the heads of the two countries need to discuss the Caucasian problems, for example, Turkey's interference in the affairs of Nakhichevan, joint exercises of Azerbaijan and Turkey, the Turkish military base in Azerbaijan, however, it does not promise all the decisions that can fundamentally change the situation around Karabakh, "the expert said.
Evseyev believes that any scrapping of the status quo around Karabakh will require from Moscow at least a waste of resources in order to establish a new status quo corresponding to Russia's national interests. The expert's conclusion is in the interests of Russia to maintain the status quo of the existing one, by minimizing unnecessary tension and increasing the level of trust between the parties to the conflict.
