ArmInfo. The Senate of the American state of Michigan recognized Nagorno-Karabakh, urging the president and the US Congress to follow his example.
The document was presented by Senator David Knezek, who made a geopolitical excursion for his colleagues, noting that Nagorno-Karabakh is located in the South Caucasus and is a historical Armenian territory, which in the days of the USSR was handed over by the Secretary General of the Azerbaijan SSR, despite the fact that it was mainly populated by Armenians .
However, the senator stressed, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Nagorno-Karabakh, like the other Soviet republics, self-determined on the basis of international legal norms. Thus, Michigan became the 8th US state that recognized Artsakh.
