ArmInfo. The European Union does not want to play geopolitical games. This was stated by the head of the EU delegation in Armenia Piotr Switalski at the conference "Perspectives of the Eastern Partnership".
"We can not accept the reality in which some part of the region becomes the territory of someone's absolute influence. We do not want to return to the zero point with our partners. We do not want to play games," he said.
At the same time, the ambassador assured that after the Brussels summit, at which the signing of the agreement between the EU and Armenia on a deep and comprehensive partnership, positive tendencies for the republic are indicated.
Nevertheless, the ambassador notes that after the bitter experience of the previous summit, the moods of both the initiators of the partnership and the partners have changed. "Today, a completely different level of expectations and claims," he said, adding that in general, small expectations of the program itself and the "Eastern Partnership". According to him, the main goal of the Eastern Partnership is the stabilization of the economies of partner countries.
As for the process of liberalization of the visa regime between Armenia and the EU, the ambassador noted that after the signing of the agreement between the parties and after "Armenia does its homework well", this day will come.
He also expressed concern over the fact that the "Eastern Partnership" countries themselves are very sluggishly interacting with each other.
The head of the Center for Globalization and Regional Studies Stepan Grigoryan noted that dissonance of moods is developing between the Armenian society and political forces. According to him, a survey conducted recently by the Center led by him showed that the majority of the Armenian society is turning its eyes to Europe, meanwhile, only 5% of the country's political forces have a pro-Western orientation. "That is, the republic's political forces do not reflect the mood and views of society, and therefore can not lead the masses", he concluded.
