Analyst: Political results of the meeting of spiritual leaders of  Armenia and Azerbaijan boil down to emphasizing the role of Russia in  the Karabakh settlement

"Here we could talk about Russia's  desire to establish mutual understanding between the Armenian and  Azerbaijani clergy in the framework of inter-confessional dialogue,  "he stressed.At the same time, Melikyan considers it expedient to  hold such meetings of the Armenian and Azerbaijani clergy without  intermediaries, regretfully noting the impossibility of changing the  existing format in the near future due to a number of political and  other factors.

The analyst believes that, by and large, the dialogue and jointly  agreed program of actions aimed at reducing the level of mutual  hostility and aggressiveness of the Armenian and Azerbaijani clergy  could certainly help to implement sound political steps to settle the  conflict and establish long-term peace in the region." However,  unfortunately, so far the process of political settlement is at an  impasse, and spiritual leaders are not ready to assume responsibility  for the real normalization of interethnic relations." In such  realities, it is senseless to expect practical positive results for  the parties to the conflict from the meeting of clerics, "the analyst  concluded.
