ArmInfo. The April 2 parliamentary elections are the best indicator that Armenia is following democratic development. Edward Sharmazanov, the vice speaker of the Armenian Parliament and the Press Secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, said this in a conversation with the correspondent of ArmInfo commenting on the criticism of the first president and leader of the "Congress-PPA" Levon Ter-Petrosyan regarding the elections.
"The best evidence that Armenia is moving along the path of democratic development is the last elections, during which new and modern technical means were introduced. Moreover, none of the international organizations implementing control questioned the results of the elections," he said.
The first president and leader of the "Congress-PPA" bloc, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, said that the results of the elections were seriously influenced by pre-electoral bribes, which, in his opinion, were of a massive nature. At the same time, the politician believes that it is not right to blame citizens for the electoral fraud. The authorities are to be blamed for everything," he said.
"Citizens in the country live in the status of serfs, which involuntarily helps the authorities to be reelected after every elections. Needing a piece of bread, mired in debts and loans, a citizen cannot resist the temptation of bribing, no matter how principled he is," the politician stressed.
To note, the bloc of the "Congress-PPA" appealed to the CEC for invalidating the results of the elections, because in his opinion, there were various violations, including the mass distribution of bribes. The CEC considered the relevant statement of the bloc, but denied its satisfaction for lack of evidence of electoral fraud.
