ArmInfo. The new Armenia-EU framework agreement is expected to be signed in November 2017 during Eastern Partnership summit. Caucasus Institute Deputy Director Sergey Minasyan stated thin on March 30.
According to him, Russia understands the whole importance of the given agreement for Armenia, and there will be no unexpected situations in the given issue. ?The signing of the given agreement is also important for EU, however not from the economic point of view but from political?, the expert resumed.
To note, on March 21, Armenia and EU initialed the agreement on extended partnership.
On February 27, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the European Council President Donald Tusk, in Brussels, announced the completion of the negotiations on new Armenia-EU agreement. The sides noted that the document is most likely to be signed in May 2017.
To note, on October 12, 2015, in Luxemburg, during the EU Council meeting on foreign affairs, the EU Council for Foreign Affairs instructed the European Commission and High Representative to start negotiations between Armenia and EU on new legal document. The new agreement will replace the current one on cooperation between Armenia and EU. At the same time, in the document is noted that EU intends the further development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation with Armenia in all the sectors the sides are interested in within the Eastern Partnership framework. On December 7, 2016, in Brussels, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Eduard Nalbandian and Head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini, in Eu headquarters announced the start of negotiations around new legal document between Armenia and EU. The first phase of negotiations took part in January 2016.
