ArmInfo. The international community, including the United States is closely monitoring the electoral process in Armenia, and the progress of the campaign. This was stated by the US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills during a meeting at the headquarters of the Republican Party of Armenia.
As the RPA press service told ArmInfo, the Ambassador noted that for the peaceful future of the country, sustainable development and the deepening of democracy the upcoming elections are crucial. He also called on the political forces to conduct a serious and aimed solution of the existing problems in the country.
During the meeting, the deputy chairman of the party Armen Ashotyan said that the ruling party considers important to the legitimacy of the elections, the creation of favorable conditions for the free expression of the will of citizens, as well as the competitiveness and fairness. "Not only the election results is important to us, but also their quality", he said, stressing that the deepening of democracy for the RPA is a strategically important issue. "From our international partners, we expect fair and equal treatment to all the forces involved in the electoral process", he resumed.
To note, the parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled on April 2, 2017. According to the CEC, the official election campaign starts on March 5 and complete on 31st. The vote will take place on April 2 from 8:00 to 20:00. Preliminary results will be announced until 20:00 on 3 April. It will be the first elections after the adoption of the constitutional reform of 2015, providing transition to a parliamentary form of government. 9 political units: 4 games, 3 blocks and 2 joint proportional list will participate the elections.
