ArmInfo. The state must provide the families of the people killed on 1 March 2008 with relevant compensation, the Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanian bloc says in a statement on the 9th year of the March 1 events.
"We are sure that the March 1 events were conditioned by the negative phenomena, which had struck deep roots since the first days of Armenia's Independence. These events should be given political assessment and it is necessary to give answers to the legal questions the society is concerned about. Moreover, the republic must give relevant compensation to the families of the people killed on March 1 2008. It is necessary to draw conclusions from these events and declare March 1 as the day of solidarity and peace. The recurrence of such events can be prevented exclusively by competitive and free elections, as well as by deepening of democracy in electoral processes," the bloc says.
To recall, the Armenian opposition headed by the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who ran for the president on February 19, 2008, but failed to win the elections, held rallies from February 20, 2008 in the center of Yerevan, protesting against voting results. On 1-2 March 2008 the rallies grew into clashes between the demonstrators and the law-enforcers, killing 10 people and injuring more than 200. The guilty people haven't been punished so far.
