Krist Maroukyan: Vanadzor Elders` Council to be cancelled - if not  now than in spring. 

ArmInfo.Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan didn't give a political solution regarding the cancellation of Vanadzor Elders' Council, referring only to the  technical side of the problem, Krist Maroukyan, the Enlightebed Armenia faction head stated at the Elders' Council of Vanadzor, referring to the Prime Minister's answer to their letter regarding Council cancellation. 

At that, Maroukyan stated that if the situation will remains  unchanged, the Councilwill be cancelled anyway - if not now, than in  the spring of this year - according to the Law on Self Governance. " 

The competence of Elders' Council is subject to anticipatory  cancellation, if during 6 weeks period it is impossible to conduct  its sessions due to the absence of quorum to be secured by its  members," Maroukyan said.  Armenian PrimeMinister Karen Karapetyan  has given a negative reply to Enlightened Armenia Party's letter  about the need to dissolve the Elders` Council of Vanadzor. To note,  in its letter the Party suggested that the Prime Minister should  dissolve the Elders' Council of Vanadzor because the Council has held  no sittings for over three months. According to the Law on Local  Self-Governance, in such cases the Government can make a decision to  dissolve the Council.  Karen Karapetyan says that three months have  not yet passed since the latest sitting of the Council, which took  place on October 10, and the Government received the Party's letter  on December 28. "So, there are no reasons for dissolution of the  Council yet," the Prime Minister says in his reply.     

To note, during the elections of the Vanadzor Elders' Council the  joint opposition obtained more votes than the ruling Republican Party  of Armenia. Enlightened Armenia, Prosperous Armenia and Armenian  Revival parties came to an agreement to vote for Enlightened  Armenia's candidate Krist Marukyan. However, during the closed  voting, one of the parties (by ArmInfo's data, the Armenian Revival  Party - editor's note) voted for the RPA candidate Mamikon Aslanyan.  Later, however, the three parties agreed to boycott the sittings of  the Council.
