ArmInfo. Over the past few years the tonality between the East and the West has become harsher, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, German Foreign Minister Frank- Walter Steinmeier told reporters before the OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Hamburg.
He stressed the irreplaceable role of the OSCE in strengthening peace in Europe. Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid special attention to the critical situation in eastern Ukraine, where the violence is escalating. He also touched on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office said that the Karabakh conflict escalation in April 2016 demonstrated how fragile the peace architecture is in the European space. The Karabakh conflict is still a danger and it is necessary to hold negotiations to resolve it, he added.
He also stressed the need to speed up efforts to resolve the conflicts in the OSCE space. He pointed out that the OSCE is exerting efforts towards resolution of the conflicts in Karabakh and Ukraine. In some cases, the OSCE even prevented these conflicts from developing into war, he stressed.
