ArmInfo. When discussing the draft law "On compensation for harm to life or health of servicemen defending the Republic of Armenia" on November 15, Armenian lawmakers held stormy debates on the latest statement of Artsakh War veteran, former lawmaker of Nagorno-Karabakh Vahan Badasyan, who said that he possessed specific facts proving army budget embezzlement by the Armed Forces leadership and certain generals.
Koryun Nahapetyan, Head of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, said that if Badasyan has specific facts proving the military budget embezzlement, corruption among the Armed Forces leadership and generals, he should submit these facts to the relevant structures. "If these facts are convincing, the relevant people will be held accountable," Nahapetyan said, adding that he doubts such phenomena in the Armenian army.
In response, Prosperous Armenia Party Faction head Naira Zohrabyan said, "If everything is fair and transparent in the Armenian army, then why were many high-ranking officials in the armed forces, including those responsible for supply to the defense sector dismissed?"
Nahapetyan replied that they were dismissed because they were working unconscientiously, but this is not enough to hold them criminally accountable.
To note, when presenting the specified draft law, Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan said in Parliament on Nov 14 that he doubted possible embezzlement of the army funds by the high-ranking officials and generals. He urged all who knows specific names of the corrupt officials to report to the authorized structures.
Artsakh War veteran Vahan Badasyan said that he could provide the relevant information. Earlier, he accused the ex-commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, currently Head of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Movses Hakobyan of monopolizing the flour and cereals supply to the army. Moreover, he sells these products to the Armed Forces at higher prices than the market price, Badasyan stressed.
