ArmInfo. Intensive work is underway with Armenia on creating a fund for recycling outdated and inoperable armored vehicles, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler informed at the opening of NATO Week in Yerevan on November 14.
According to him the fund creation will contribute to fulfillment of obligations taken by Armenia within Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. Kiesler stressed the importance of holding NATO Week in Armenia considering that wide discussions will be held on timely issues of bilateral agenda including issues of women's involvement in the army, raising awareness of Armenian society on Armenia's cooperation with NATO. The Armenian society lacks information about Armenia- NATO cooperation. Within NATO Week a number of events will be held in Yerevan and in Gegharkunik, Syunik and Vanadzor regions, the diplomat stressed.
At the same time Deputy Head of Defense Policy Department of Armenia's Defense Ministry Mher Israelyan stated that Armenia has efficiently cooperated with NATO starting from 1990ies.
"NATO is Armenia's reliable partner. We cooperate in three important areas-peacekeeping activities, reforms in defense sector and cooperation in the field of education. Besides, we closely work on the issues of raising moral values in Armenia's Armed Forces. Via "Trust" fund we plan to implement program on recycling inoperable armor vehicles of Armenia's Armed Forces. Germany has already expressed readiness to assist the implementation of this program and will provide $1mln for this purpose, Israelyan summarized.
To note, NATO Week will be held between November 14 and 18 in Armenia. A wide range of events will be held within the week with close cooperation with German Embassy to Armenia, Armenia's Defense Ministry and Foreign Ministry. On November 14, "Women in Armed Forces" conference will be held, on November 15 a visit will be paid to the peacekeeping brigade of Armenian Armed Forces, traditional linkup for Armenian peacekeepers in Kosovo and Afghanistan, and their families will be organized. On November 16, "Development of Cyber Security Potential" workshop will take place for cyber security experts. On November 17, National Academy of Sciences of Armenia will host "Science for Peace and Security" information day. On November 18, a meeting with students and professors will be held in Yerevan State University.
