Armenian Police do not want to forgo extra-budgetary funds

ArmInfo. Armenian police do not want to forgo extra-budgetary funds, as they help to allocate funds, Deputy Chief of Police Vardan Yeghiazaryan stated today in parliament during budget hearings.

According to him extra-budgetary funds are the main resource of the police, which according to the structure's forecast will decline in 2016. "The budget lacks funds for major construction and other expenses. Due to these funds we manage to conduct more flexible financial policy", he stressed.  Yeghiazaryan did not agree with the statement that the number of police employees is more than necessary for the country. Particularly, he stated that compared to a lot of developed countries the indicator of correlation of population and law enforcement officers' number in Armenia is quite low.

Chief Treasurer of Armenia Atom Janjughazyan in turn stated that draft budget for 2017 envisages allocating 42 bln drams to police. The main amount of the funds -86.4% (36.4 bln drams) will be used for maintaining public order, 7.6% (3.2 bln drams) for maintenance of special facilities and the remaining funds will be spent on implementation of 12 programs.

To note, according to the data of mass media extra-budgetary funds of the Armenian Police total around 22 bln drams and these funds are spent upon the Police Chief's discretion. Nearly 13.5 mln drams out of these funds are the penalties for infringement of traffic rules. Besides extra budgetary funds the Police receive more than 60 bln drams from the state budget annually.
