ArmInfo.Turkey's active involvement in the Karabakh conflict is impossible under current conditions, with the political gestures, maneuvers and demarches to continue till the final diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Sergei Stankevich, Russia's political and public figure and expert at Anatoly Sobchak Fund, a member of the Party of Growth Board, told ArmInfo in an online interview organized by the Region Research Center.
"As for the use of the military facilities in the territory of Iran, Russia needs an air base in Iran just to upgrade the efficiency of the use of heavy strategic air force in the war in Syria. Taking off from Russia's Mozdok air base, the strike aircrafts have to load only half of the ammunition or resort to in-flight refueling. Both the cases affect the efficiency of the strikes. Russia is not seeking a permanent military presence in Iran," the expert said.
The expert believes that Russia needs the cooperation with Turkey for the same reason i.e. to block the 100km-long part of the Syrian-Turkish border Jarabulus-Azaz through which the terrorist groups in Syria receive manpower and weapons. Stankevich is sure that the military operation against ISIS and the groups close to it in Syria will take a few months, if the given part of the border is blocked.
