ArmInfo. European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Marta Kos responded to the launch of the EU-standard biometric passport system in Armenia.
"Armenians are one step closer to visa-free travel to the European Union. Thanks to EU support, Armenians will now be able to obtain new biometric passports, which will speed up border control and simplify travel. Armenia chooses closer ties with Europe, and we are making sure this choice matters for its people," Kos wrote on Twitter (X).
It is worth noting that the official launch of the production of new biometric passports and ID cards took place in Yerevan on October 31. Their production is being handled by a consortium of French companies, IDEMIA Identity Security France and A.C.I. Technology S.a.r.l., which won an international tender. According to the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, 14 HayPass offices, tasked with issuing biometric passports, have opened in Yerevan and the regions. In Yerevan, the offices are located in the Yerevan Mall and Mega Mall shopping centers.
