ArmInfo. The opposition factions "Armenia" and "Strong Armenia" of the National Assembly have nominated former NA MP Artsvik Minasyan as a joint candidate for the position of member of the Competition and Consumer Protection Committee.
At the plenary session of the NA on October 30, Artur Khachatryan, a member of the "Armenia" faction, presented the candidate's biography.
In his speech, Artsvik Minasyan emphasized the need to grant the commission the right to evaluate certain issues. In particular, he noted that immediately after the trials at the Ararat Cement Plant, cement prices soared; now, even after the plant's restart, they are declining very slowly, which is affecting the construction sector. The commission, as the candidate noted, should have the right to evaluate such developments. For example, it's important to answer questions about the potential consequences of a particular legal proceeding, how these consequences can be predicted, and what measures need to be taken to mitigate them. The developments surrounding the enterprise have led to many construction companies suspending their operations. They are unable to move forward because sharp fluctuations in cement prices have prevented them from implementing their previously developed programs.
Minasyan noted that the right to nominate an opposition candidate is enshrined in law, and the right of the ruling majority to elect or not elect them is also enshrined in law.
