ArmInfo. If the opposition fails to accept the draft new Constitution, the authorities will take a different approach. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this while answering journalists' questions during a briefing on October 22.
"If we fail to convince our colleagues in the opposition that the adoption of a new Constitution is an important and fundamental issue that ensures the longevity of the state, we may hold early elections. Who said this scenario is out of the question?" the Prime Minister stated. He emphasized his responsibility to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to amend the Constitution and sign and ratify the peace treaty.
Noting that the draft new Constitution will soon be submitted for public discussion and then to Parliament, Pashinyan reiterated that this issue is not being discussed with Azerbaijan, as it is a domestic political matter. He said that this topic was also discussed during a meeting with the Azerbaijani leader in Bishkek. "I told the Azerbaijani side that it is unacceptable for us when Azerbaijan raises issues related to our Constitution, because this is our internal agenda. The position of the Azerbaijani side is as follows: they say that they accept that the issue of the Constitution is an internal political issue for Armenia, and no one has the right to interfere in the internal life and internal political life of countries. They are simply informing us, since we are discussing the issue of concluding a peace treaty, that they have such a political position," the Prime Minister shared.
