ArmInfo. Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attacks on the Armenian community in Jerusalem and expressed his commitment to preventing the recurrence of such acts, the Jerusalem Committee of Hay Dat reported.
Hay Dat reported that on August 7, 2026, they sent Herzog a letter expressing deep concern over the attacks on the Armenian community in Jerusalem and calling for the necessary and effective measures to ensure the protection of community members and their institutions.
In his response, the Israeli President addressed the seriousness of these incidents and expressed his commitment to preventing the recurrence of such acts. He also reaffirmed the importance of the Armenian community, which has been a valuable part of Jerusalem's life for generations.
"I want to emphasize that I will do everything within my authority, using all the means at my disposal, to prevent such incidents from happening again. I am convinced that these individuals do not represent the true face of Israel, and their actions reflect neither our values nor our commitment to the Armenian community, which is an ancient, beloved community and has been a good and respected neighbor in Jerusalem for generations, with which the Jewish community of the Old City has close ties," the Israeli President added. The Jerusalem Hay Dat Committee welcomed Herzog's statement, calling his response an important recognition of the pressing issues raised by the committee and the Armenian community.
"We express our gratitude to President Isaac Herzog for his response and for his commitment to addressing this issue. "We hope that his words will lead to tangible and effective steps to protect the safety, dignity, and rights of the Armenian community in Jerusalem," the Hay Dat statement reads.
It should be noted that the Armenian community in Jerusalem is periodically subjected to attacks by Israeli settlers. Footage of hostile and aggressive behavior by settlers toward Armenians and the Armenian spiritual heritage in the Holy Land has repeatedly appeared on social media. One of the most recent examples was the attack on an Armenian teenager during a walk and the use of pepper spray against him.
