ArmInfo. Narek Karapetyan, head of the Strong Armenia faction, explained why their political force nominated a candidate for the local government elections only in Stepanavan.
On October 16, at a press conference in Yerevan, Karapetyan stated that this decision is in line with their chosen tactic, which involves depriving the Civil Contract party of the opportunity to establish power in other regions. "We intend to 'clip the wings' of the Civil Contract party in the regions. Our approach is that Stepanavan is the first attempt. Subsequent elections will be held in Armenia's largest communities. "That is, the game is still ahead, as is our struggle," the politician stated.
According to Karapetyan, they first intend to gain institutional experience in order to carry out the work properly in the future. "Our partners in various regions, who are also part of our bloc, have their representatives there. We decided to simply start with Stepanavan. But I want to remind you that approximately 40% of our population is concentrated in three communities. And elections in these communities are still ahead," the faction leader concluded.
As a reminder, local government elections will be held in 46 communities across Armenia in the fall of 2026.
