ArmInfo. Armen Simonyan, a prisoner at the Artik penitentiary, contacted ArmInfo with complaints about inhumane treatment by prison administration.
According to him, he has been held in inhumane conditions for four months and is being subjected to torture. He claims it all began after he was "illegally" transferred from the Sevan penitentiary to Artik.
"My illegal transfer here to Artik was orchestrated by the head of the Penitentiary Service, Tsovinar Tadevosyan, the Minister of Justice, Srbuhi Galyan, and the Ombudsman of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan." "They're literally 'drinking my blood' here; there's not a single living spot on my body. Even self-harm doesn't help," the prisoner complained.
Simonyan noted that, "under the instigation" of prison management, other prisoners often drive him to the point of self-harm. "There's not a single living spot on my arms or legs. I'm just existing here," he complained.
Simonyan also said that he is seeking a transfer to the Kentron Correctional Facility, as the conditions at his current facility are unbearable, and the prison warden and his subordinates are "trying to kill him." He also reported that he is currently in solitary confinement.
ArmInfo's editorial team contacted the Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office to find out whether they were aware of the prisoner's situation and whether they had any information regarding this report. The Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office promised to review the complaints received and provide any information they had.
