ArmInfo. A decision has been made to detain a teacher who used violence against a student at a Vardadzor school. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia reported this to ArmInfo.
The agency reported that a report of an alleged crime was received, revealing that on September 30, a teacher at a Vardadzor secondary school struck a student with a pointer during class for talking. "After the child ran into the hallway, the teacher followed him, struck the minor with his hand, grabbed him, and brought him back to the classroom," the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported.
According to a source, the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case regarding the incident under the article that provides for punishment for causing physical pain or severe mental suffering to a minor (punishment ranges from 3 to 7 years in prison). "Based on sufficient evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation, the investigator submitted a petition to the prosecutor to initiate a public criminal prosecution against the teacher, which was granted. A decision was made to detain him. The preliminary investigation is ongoing," the department concluded.
As a reminder, footage of a teacher hitting a second-grade student at a school in Vardadzor had previously been circulated in the media. The video sparked widespread public outcry. The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MECS) of Armenia subsequently responded to the situation. They announced that the ministry would initiate the process of revoking the right to practice teaching for the teacher who hit the student at a school in the Gegharkunik region.
