ArmInfo. Today, the Caucasus region needs peace more than ever, and this must be ensured by strengthening official borders. Experience has shown that the intervention of extra-regional forces can lead to instability. This was stated by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf at a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Pars Today reports.
He recalled that the Islamic Republic's unwavering policy is to develop and strengthen relations with neighboring countries at both the practical and strategic levels.
In this vein, he expressed hope that a strategic cooperation agreement between Iran and Armenia will soon be finalized.
"In addition to bilateral relations, there are regional issues in the Caucasus, including transportation routes, that Iran and Armenia can discuss." Today, the Caucasus region needs peace more than ever, and this must be ensured by strengthening official borders. Experience has shown that the intervention of extra-regional forces can lead to instability.
For example, in the Persian Gulf region, we see the arrival of foreign powers, and some countries believed their presence would provide security, but the result was instability. "These powers are merely seeking access to the opportunities and resources of regional countries and pursuing their own interests," the head of the Iranian parliament said.
At the same time, he expressed hope that the exchange of opinions and sustainable, progressive cooperation between the two countries in the political and economic spheres will contribute to the creation of opportunities in transit, energy, and other areas and will yield practical results.
"The Americans have failed to achieve any of their military goals in the confrontation with Iran and suffered a defeat, while in the political sphere they violated the agreements during the implementation of the memorandum, thereby dealing another blow to their own reputation," Ghalibaf noted.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Iranian side, Mirzoyan stated that strong friendship and sustainable relations are formed through mutual support in difficult times. It is friendship in difficult times that strengthens relations.
"The countries of the region have unique capabilities in transport, energy, infrastructure, and other areas, so we must expand and develop our cooperation. This is why Armenia is striving to develop transport links with its neighbors. Armenia will not allow any actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran from its territory. The Islamic Republic of Iran's principled position on the inviolability of the borders of regional states is of great importance to us," Mirzoyan added.
