Swedfund is a Swedish development finance institution whose mission is to reduce poverty through sustainable investments in developing countries. Guided by the 2030 Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we focus on achieving development results and financial performance in the most vulnerable, and often promising, regions.
To achieve its mission, Swedfund uses two instruments: private sector investments and public sector project preparation funding through the Project Accelerator program. Both processes are mutually reinforcing, allowing us to work comprehensively on sustainable development in developing countries.
Swedfund invests in creating jobs with decent working conditions and improved access to essential goods and services, such as energy, food, and digital connectivity. Investments aim to strengthen local economies, promote gender equality and innovation, and enable more companies to meet international standards. Swedfund also invests in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience to support the green transition in developing countries. Swedfund was established in 1979 and is a state-owned company managed by the Swedish Ministry of Finance.
