Media: The US sharply increased military funding for Armenia

ArmInfo.  The United States sharply increased military funding for Armenia in fiscal year 2024, while more than $60 million has been allocated in total since 2002, according to data from the U.S. government.  RIA Novosti reports this, noting that last week Andrew Loomis, Assistant Deputy Secretary of Defense, stated that Washington intends to use the full potential of its programs to assist in reforming the Armed Forces of Armenia.

It is recalled that U.S. military assistance to Armenia under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program began back in 2002. In total, through fiscal year 2024, the cumulative volume of U.S. military financing for Armenia exceeded $60 million.

According to Pentagon statistics reviewed by RIA Novosti, funding increased substantially in fiscal year 2024. At that time, the United States allocated more than $8.1 million to Armenia. In 2023, the amount was only about $16,000, while in 2022 it was approximately $1.3 million. Data for 2025 had not been published as of now.

At the same time, Armenia received approximately $18 million from 2023 through 2024. In January 2025, the State Department notified that this amount had been allocated under the FMF for a number of projects, including the development of the National Training Center for servicemembers. A month before this notification, the Pentagon chief said that funds for the relevant purposes had been allocated over the previous two years.

At the same time, in December 2024, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan named as priorities in Armenian-American defense cooperation areas aimed both at carrying out the transformation of Armenia's armed forces and at increasing the level of interaction with the U.S. armed forces.
