The condition of the former head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia worsened in court - the next hearings will be held without his presence.

ArmInfo. During the court hearing on September 18, the condition of former head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Gagik Khachatryan worsened, and he was taken out of the courthouse on a gurney.

It should be noted that the hearing itself was held in the presence of paramedics. Khachatryan was again brought to this hearing on a gurney. After some time, his condition worsened, and doctors began measuring his blood sugar levels. After this, he was carried out of the courtroom. An ambulance was waiting for the former SRC head outside.

It is noteworthy that before this, Mariam Tsatryan, press secretary of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, responded to a statement from Khachatryan's defense team, assured that the former SRC head was receiving the necessary medical care. "Gagik Khachatryan, like all other individuals deprived of their liberty, receives the necessary and adequate medical care and services in penal institutions in accordance with the procedure established by law, and, if necessary, is referred for specialized medical examination. We ask that you refrain from unnecessary speculation," Tsatryan wrote.

During the hearing, attorney Yerem Sargsyan requested that subsequent hearings be held without Khachatryan's presence. Judge Vardges Stepanyan granted his request.

As a reminder, by a decision of the Prosecutor General's Office dated August 29, 2026, the criminal case initiated on June 7, 2026, against the former SRC Chairman within the framework of proceedings being reviewed by the Investigative Committee was amended and supplemented, and a new public criminal prosecution was initiated. Khachatryan was detained on September 1 after security forces searched his and his son's apartments, as well as the offices and branches of 21 affiliated companies. These actions were carried out as part of a criminal investigation into large-scale bribery and large-scale money laundering. On September 2, he was placed under arrest for two months.

On September 1, lawyers for the former head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia posted a video showing the ailing Khachatryan being literally dragged out of bed and placed on a stretcher to be taken to court. In the court itself, the former minister was forced to lie down on a chair, which the defense team characterized as further torture. On September 10, lawyer Yerem Sargsyan reported that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had sent a request to the Armenian government regarding a complaint filed by Gagik Khachatryan's defense.
