Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Awarded the Hessian Peace Prize

Arminfo. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been awarded the Hessian Peace Prize. This was announced by the prime minister’s press secretary, Melania Harutyunyan, who posted a photograph from the award ceremony on her page.

The prize highlights the 51-year-old politician’s ongoing efforts to build democratic institutions in the country and bring it closer to the European Union. As one of the leaders of the 2018 Velvet Revolution, he paved the way for parliamentary elections and has since, as prime minister, been leading the country toward peace and integration into Europe. At the same time, with the support of the United States, he managed to adopt a joint declaration on peace with the president of neighboring Azerbaijan in August 2025, as well as sign the agreement "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan."

The prize, worth 25,000 euros, has been awarded by the Albert Oswald Foundation since 1994. The purpose of the prize is to recognize efforts to end wars, violence or conflicts involving the threat of violence, preventive measures, the development of strategies to prevent violent conflicts, and contributions to mutual understanding among peoples. The prize was established by former Hesse Prime Minister Albert Oswald (Social Democratic Party of Germany, SPD) and his family. The board of trustees includes representatives of leading German scientific research institutes engaged in peace studies, who advise on the awarding of the peace prize.
