Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation with international organizations on issues related to enforced disappearances

ArmInfo.  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan, as part of the dialogue with Armenia on the sidelines of the 31st session of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances, presented the efforts being undertaken by the republic to implement the Committee’s recommendations. This includes legal, institutional and practical measures aimed at ensuring the protection of fundamental human rights, the rule of law and justice for persons subjected to enforced disappearances and their family members.

As reported by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting Abisoghomonyan noted in his speech the progress achieved in fulfilling Armenia’s obligations and emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing existing problems, as well as the full and effective implementation of the provisions of the Convention.

The Republic of Armenia’s commitment to cooperation with international partners and bodies on issues related to missing persons and persons subjected to enforced disappearances, capacity-building and ensuring a solid legal framework was reaffirmed.

Attention was also paid to the initialed peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the provision contained therein concerning missing persons and cases of enforced disappearances, with emphasis on the importance of institutionalizing peace in the region.

The Committee on Enforced Disappearances is a body composed of independent experts that monitors the implementation by States Parties of the provisions of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
