A Bundestag delegation visited “Tsitsernakaberd”

Arminfo.  A delegation headed by Anton Hofreiter, Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on European Union Affairs, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

According to a statement from the parliament’s press service, the delegation members laid a wreath and flowers at the eternal flame commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide and honored the memory of the holy martyrs with a minute of silence.

The guests visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, where they familiarized themselves with documents and testimonies confirming the catastrophe of the 20th century.

It should be recalled that on June 2, 2016, the German Bundestag recognized the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire and officially condemned these actions. Only one Bundestag member voted “against” the resolution, while another abstained. The agenda item was titled: “In memory of the Armenian Genocide and other Christian minorities in the Ottoman Empire 101 years ago.” The resolution states that the German government recognized its share of responsibility for the historical events, as well as recognized the tragic events of 1915—the deportation and murder of Armenians —as genocide. Immediately after the resolution was adopted, Turkey recalled its ambassador to Germany pending a decision on further action.
