Magdalena Grono visited Matenadaran to see Armenia’s ancient manuscripts firsthand

Arminfo. The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Magdalena Grono, visited the Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts “Matenadaran.”

As reported by the press service of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, at the Matenadaran, Grono familiarized herself with the rich collection of Armenian manuscripts and their history, as well as with the traditions of preserving, processing and copying ancient manuscripts for museum exhibitions. Armenia’s exemplary and internationally recognized role in preserving Armenian and global cultural heritage, including ancient manuscripts, was emphasized.

Subsequently, a conversation took place at the Matenadaran between Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and Magdalena Grono, during which Armenia-EU relations were discussed, the latest actions undertaken within the mandate of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia were addressed, as was their effectiveness in the context of institutionalizing the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that at the end of last week it became known that representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Baku had visited occupied Artsakh. They visited Shushi and Stepanakert, where the Azerbaijani occupation regime is erasing all Armenian presence with the silent encouragement of the so-called civilized international community. They then visited the Armenian monasteries of Dadivank and Gandzasar and listened with admiration to the tales told by Azerbaijani presidential aide Himke Dadjiyev that these were supposedly Albanian sanctuaries.  Among the participants was also the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Magdalena Grono, who likewise witnessed the show put on by Azerbaijani presidential aide Khimket Gadjiyev. In particular, the latter attempted to accuse Armenia of falsifying history, choosing as his tool models of ancient manuscripts that were displayed in the museum of occupied Gandzasar.
