The permissible level of mercury in drinking water has been exceeded in one of Syunik’s settlements

ArmInfo. The permissible level of mercury has been exceeded in drinking water in the settlement of Tsav in Syunik Province. This was reported by the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) of Armenia’s Ministry of Health.

According to the source, one of the residents of the settlement of Tsav reported the presence of metallic masses in the water. Specialists from the Syunik branch of the NCDC took a water sample at the resident’s home. Laboratory testing revealed that the sample contained mercury above the permissible level.

Given the high level of the recorded indicator, as well as the fact that previous chemical tests had not revealed such deviations, samples were retaken at four locations, including the water supply source and residents’ taps.  According to the results obtained on September 11, similar indicators were recorded again. All relevant authorities were warned about the detected deviation to ensure the population’s water supply needs.

"Until the water quality is restored, we urge residents of the settlement of Tsav to refrain from using it for drinking and household needs. No health-related symptoms have been recorded among residents; however, as part of preventive measures, specialists will conduct house-to-house visits," the source said.
