ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities plan to update the official oath text for government members and lawmakers, adapting it to the concept of "real Armenia." The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs issued a positive conclusion on the amendments to the law "On the Structure and Activities of the Government" submitted by the RA government for first reading.
According to RA Deputy Minister of Justice Tigran Dadunts, the wording concerning the "preservation of national values" and service to "national goals" is being removed from the oath. The obligations are being replaced with the protection of state interests, the strengthening of the constitutional order, and work in the interests of present and future generations. The text is proposed to end with the words "Glory to the martyrs and long live the Republic of Armenia." "For the sake of the longevity, sovereignty and development of the Republic of Armenia, I swear to conscientiously perform my duties as a member of the government, observe the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Armenia, serve the public interest, protect state interests, contribute to the strengthening of the statehood and constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia, and act for the benefit of present and future generations," the new oath text says.
The purpose of the draft regulation is to improve the legal content of the oath text for government members. With the proposed amendment, the oath text will more clearly reflect values aimed at strengthening statehood, protecting public and state interests, as well as the development and longevity of the Republic of Armenia.
