Armenia and Luxembourg intend to deepen cooperation in the field of criminal justice

ArmInfo. Prosecutor General of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan and Prosecutor General of Luxembourg John Petri confirmed the importance of strengthening international cooperation and exchanging experience in the field of criminal justice at a meeting in Luxembourg.

As the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia told ArmInfo, Petri highly appreciated the level of cooperation between the prosecutors’ offices of the two countries, noting that effectively combating international and cross-border crime requires close and continuous cooperation between the agencies. The Prosecutor General of Luxembourg expressed his readiness to facilitate the expansion of bilateral working ties and the intensification of joint efforts in areas of mutual interest.

Vardapetyan, in turn, highly assessed the partnership that had been established and discussed with her counterpart a number of issues related to international legal assistance in criminal matters. The parties emphasized that legal cooperation between Armenia and Luxembourg is carried out within the framework of a number of international treaties, including agreements on mutual legal assistance and extradition, as well as on combating cybercrime, corruption and transnational organized crime.

According to the source, particular attention was paid to Armenia’s cooperation with the "Eurojust" agency. "It was noted that the agreements signed in 2024 created new opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of practical cooperation in combating cross-border crime. In this context, the parties pointed to the importance of organizing coordinated interaction and holding coordination meetings within the framework of criminal proceedings," the agency noted.

During the meeting, the areas of involvement of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia in international professional networks and structures were also presented. In particular, Armenia’s representation on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors was noted, as was the agency’s active participation in a number of professional structures of the Council of Europe.

In addition, the parties touched upon professional retraining activities carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia and assistance in developing international and regional professional dialogue. In this context, the Armenian Platform for the European Dialogue of Prosecutors (APEPD) was presented, bringing together representatives of the prosecutors’ offices of Council of Europe member states, specialists and senior officials of international and regional structures.

Vardapetyan and Petri emphasized the importance of continuously developing the working ties established between the prosecutors’ offices of the two countries and expressed their readiness to further deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
