Opposition MP: Single mother of three arrested in Armenia

ArmInfo.An unmarried mother of three minors is under arrest in Armenia. Agnessa Khamoyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia from the opposition Armenia faction, announced this at a parliamentary session on August 26.

The MP said she was detained on August 25 (as part of the case  brought against Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan - ed.).  Khamoyan ironically noted that this time, the mother was at least  allowed to see her children, unlike Mother Armenia party member  Aregnaz Manukyan, who was not allowed to see her children. However,  as the opposition member noted, no one took into account the fact  that the woman is single.

"And now the question has arisen: who should look after these  children? Some will say, 'Let the grandmother look after them.' That  would be fine, except she's also under arrest. Others will say,  'Well, let the aunt look after them,' but the trouble is, she's under  arrest. Moreover, the grandfather of these children is under house  arrest. Is this your justice? Is this somehow connected to the  'former' children again, or to someone else?" the opposition member  lamented.

The MP noted that all of this is happening in a country where the  Armenian prime minister is giving orders to law enforcement agencies  from the podium.

As a reminder, on the morning of August 25, security forces brought  second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and his eldest son, Sedrak  Kocharyan, to the Anti-Corruption Committee for questioning. At the  same time, officers from the National Security Council of Armenia  conducted searches of the apartment of Levon Kocharyan, a member of  the opposition Armenia faction and the son of second President Robert  Kocharyan. The searches lasted seven hours. It was also revealed that  searches were conducted at Robert Kocharyan's home and dozens of  addresses of companies owned by the Kocharyan family, as well as the  homes of directors of companies associated with the second president.  According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, I. Kh., A. V.,  K. A., and the former director of Kh. M. were detained under  paragraph 2 of part 3 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code. The  Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia announced on the same day that  Robert Kocharyan had been charged with large-scale money laundering,  abuse of office, and bribery. Criminal cases were initiated against  nine individuals, including former Defense Minister and third  President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. Later, the Anti-Corruption  Committee of Armenia announced that four of the six individuals  detained the previous day had been placed under arrest, including  Sedrak Kocharyan. The court remanded him in custody for two months.  Another defendant, according to the source, was placed under house  arrest. It was also reported that a travel ban has been imposed on  Serzh Sargsyan, the third president of Armenia, who is also involved  in the case.

According to media reports, house arrest has been imposed on Aramais  Voskanyan, who served as the caretaker of government dachas from 1999  to 2009 (during Robert Kocharyan's presidency - ed.). It is his  daughter who is unable to see her minor children due to her arrest.
