ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in the National Assembly on August 25 that the government will present a report on the activities of the Armenian Apostolic Church within a month.
"I will propose creating a parliamentary investigative commission on this issue. You know, today's clergy are doomed to poverty, and the Church itself has its good and bad sides. Where there's a large congregation... Let's say a multitude of poor priests are sent to a church somewhere on the edge of the world, where maybe 15 people will come a month. No one cares whether this person is hungry or healthy," Pashinyan noted.
He also questioned why clergy shouldn't receive a salary and benefit from state-funded health insurance.
